D. Treut’s music is defined by kaleidescopic unconventionality. He has moved through jazz improvisation, rock and pop with equal vigor, extracting from each without quite belonging to any of them. The result is something original, restless and difficult to classify, beyond category.

Calling it outsider music gets at the non-conformist spirit of the work, but undersells the musical intelligence underneath it. The work is high-concept and frequently incongruous, opening unexpected musical doors; abstract ideas suddenly become catchy, difficult passages reveal humor. What initially feels strange can become surprisingly gratifying. He doesn't pull out all the stops - only the relevant ones.

Treut is a wild musical personality. Drums are his main instrument, he's also accomplished on piano, tenor and soprano saxophone, clarinet, guitar, bass and voice. He is a prolific composer and self-producing artist, including the self-released record 8, Who Are You EP, Bad Rap & Time’s A River and a run of singles. He began his life in music at the age of five on piano at Milan’s La Scala. His studies earned him Bachelor of Music in Jazz at NYU. After more than two decades living in Brooklyn, and having had placed himself inside an unusually broad cross-section of New York City Music: jazz, folk punk, avant-garde, classical, free improvisation, prog rock, drum & bass, Americana and the sinew that exists between them.

This restless approach continues in a body of five self-produced EPs recorded in his Bushwick Brooklyn loft in 2019. Across the five releases, Treut moves between drums, guitar, piano and voice — less a musician changing instruments than one musical personality finding different ways in to the music.

His most recent release 'Bad Rap' has DT showcasing his multi-instrumentalist capabilities through the lense of hip-hop ear worms.

Currently, DT has started a band with Jazz Bassman, Gene Perla, called 'GATES'
